Sponsor A Teacher: Invest $2,500 a year for 2 years.
According to the West African Exams Council, just 53% of Ghanaian students who took the national exam in 2016 earned a passing mark in English, and only 33% earned a passing mark in mathematics. The outcomes for pupils coming through the Ghanaian public school system, especially in rural areas, are significantly worse. Because of educational inequality, young people attending public schools in rural parts of the country have little chance of achieving higher education. Teach For Ghana, with your help, will change this equation. Access to quality education for all children is critical to raising the skilled workforce needed for Ghana’s future development.
Teach For Ghana’s “Sponsor A Teacher” campaign enlists a community of dedicated supporters committed to a long-term solution for Ghana’s education gap. These donors are results-oriented philanthropists who believe that outstanding teachers can lead every child to succeed. With their help, we are pioneering a robust culture of giving in Ghana. This is your opportunity to help foster inspired educators and future leaders who are committed to effecting systemic change.
Each of our Fellows, through direct classroom instruction, extracurricular programming, and community engagement initiatives, directly impacts at least 40 students during their two years of service. Through your sponsorship, you will be matched with one or more of these Fellows, who work tirelessly to close the achievement gap in Ghana. Throughout the year, Teach For Ghana will provide a platform for you to be in contact with Fellows and become intimately involved in their efforts in the classroom.
Benefits of Sponsorship
Sponsors can choose to receive quarterly updates from Fellows about the strides they are making in their classrooms and their tireless efforts to lead their students to succeed. These can take the form of e-mail, letters, phone calls, or online video conversations. Some supporters elect to serve as mentors for their Fellows and maintain a more extended correspondence with them throughout the year. Sponsors are also invited to Teach For Ghana events, which often provide the opportunity to meet our exceptional young leaders in person.
